Platypus People

Rpb Jordan

Rob Jordan

Head Honcho

Fave Tape: Everyday Gingham. Boom! It goes everywhere, everyday.

Fun Fact: Rob was fascinated with tools and how things worked before he could even walk. He took his very first steps to cross a room and grab a screwdriver out of his mom’s hands. The following year, a two-year-old Rob took apart his crib with a screwdriver he had acquired surreptitiously. His mom, hearing a loud crash in the night, ran into the room only to find Rob sitting on the floor happily eating crackers, screwdriver in hand, crib in pieces. Nowadays he’s older, but still likes tools and crackers. He just built a gigantic orange half pipe in the warehouse (yes, it has blue tiles and pool coping). On a typical workday, you can find him popping a backside alley-oop while thinking about another unusual use for Designer Duct Tape!

Lissa Lowe

Lissa Lowe

Marketing Muse

Fave Tape: Mashup of I Heart Tape, Picnic Gingham + Denim

Fun Fact: Years ago while in New York City for advertising production, Lissa narrowly missed being impaled by a heavily nail-encrusted piece of construction randomly falling from the sky. Jumping swiftly aside, this lucky girl kept walking – without skipping a beat (though her heart did, in fact, stop momentarily). Thankfully, she made it to Magnolia Bakery just in time to box up a dozen vanilla-vanillas with pale pink frosting for her crew. (It was definitely a Sliding Doors moment in her life…). Today, she spends her days stuck in a wonderfully unexpected position of promoting patterns, palettes and Platypus people. She directs creative development. And, she’s very crafty.

Michael Sullivan

Michael Sullivan

Taproot Films (director of photography, editor, music composer, heavy lifter….)

Fave Tape: Jolly Roger

Fun Fact: During the Writers Strike of 2007-2008, Michael singlehandedly wrote every comedic line for the critically acclaimed Weather Channel sitcom, “Snow in Idaho.” He also plays country guitar with his teeth, has competed for Mr. Universe, and keeps a drawerful of skull caps and scarves on hand to suit his daily mood. An insomniac, he has also been known to write songs when he should be sleeping.

Kristin Brewer

Kristin Brewer

Taproot Films (film director, producer, cat herder, problem-solver….)

Fave Tape: Really likes Houndstooth. But it’s so popular she’s sticking with Blue Paisley.

Fun Fact: As an experiment in 2005, Kristin listened to “Superfreak” by Rick James – on repeat - for an entire 24 hour period. She awoke the next day with glossy, loosely curled locks (resembling a Jheri Curl). She also stuffed about 4000 small gift boxes into the trunk of her hatchback since they were needed for the set design of Designer Duct Tape’s first film production. A perfectionist with heart, she’ll do whatever it takes to create great.

Louise Jordan

Louise Jordan

Production Assistant / Stylist (also known as Rob’s ubercool mom)

Fave Tape: Houndstooth

Fun Fact: Louise has a knack for re-envisioning décor. Once, she threw a drop cloth over her sleeping husband and proceeded to paint their entire bedroom black just so she could see the furniture recess. Also at 9 months pregnant, she took a sledgehammer to the very fake and ugly tile in her bathroom. She couldn’t bear to bring a baby home to something so unsightly. Louise is unstoppably chic and is the best PA ever.

John Hughes

John Hughes

Customer Shepherd

Fave Tape: Loves using White Linen with Blue Paisley.

Fave Craft: White Linen wallet with Peek-a-boo Paisley on the inside.

Fun Fact: Notorious for beating a Kiwi to take the windsurfer medal at Mission Bay Water Sports Camp when he was 12. He still proudly displays this medal on his mantelpiece and is fairly certain that his name lives on in infamy at said camp.
